Alex Recalt, PhD, LCSW

Psychotherapist

I treat adults, couples, and families who are navigating a sense of 'stuckness' or distress that feels heavy but hard to define, working together to uncover the underlying emotional truths that are asking for our attention in the present.

In psychotherapy, we work together in the present moment, understanding that the feelings you carry about your past or future are alive right now. By listening closely to what emerges, we create space for new meaning and a freer path forward. Here are some facts about me and my practice:- I've been in practice since 2012- I'm based in Portland, Oregon and see patients both in-person and virtually. I'm also licensed in Florida, California, and Massachusetts, and I see patients in those states largely virtually, but with semi-annual in-person visits.- My clinical orientation is primarily psychodynamic.- I speak English, Spanish, and Italian, and work with patients in each of those languages.- I offer an analytically-minded space for adults and couples to examine the complex ways that identity — including cultural heritage, LGBTQIA+ experience, and disability — lives within the psyche. Having navigated the complexities of immigration myself, I am sensitive to the dialogue between our most private feelings and the external pressures of a world that often fails to see us clearly.- I don't accept insurance plans directly; in other words, I'm an "out-of-network" provider. This means that you’re responsible for the session fee at the time of our appointment. The good news is that, depending on your insurance plan, a certain percentage of that may be reimbursed to you by your insurance company after the fact. This is very easily done!
